Three Strikes and you’re out!

There has been much reported around Ofsted’s proposal to change the “satisfactory” grade in inspections to “requires improvement”. Ofsted has announced today that this controversial change will come into force in September this year.
Under the changes, if a school that “requires improvement” has not improved to “good” by their 3rd inspection they will be placed in special measures. Ofsted will work with these schools to help them improve.
The announcement today is likely to be regarded unfavourably by many teachers. However, there is widespread agreement that schools that are not providing a good standard of education should not be allowed to “coast” at just a satisfactory level. It remains to be seen how successful these changes will be in practice but Ofsted appear to have presented a framework that should ensure more assistance is provided to improve standards in schools.
